Thank you Matt Cockburn for this insight:
The attendance of 7 boats from North America is significant and needs to be noted and acknowledged. The last time there were 7 boats from our continent at a Worlds outside North America was in 1985 at Cannes, France. It is interesting to note that in 1985 all of the USA & Canada entries were Moderns. This time around, all seven entries are Classics. I am certain there will be some discussion about the future of the Class at the AGM, in particular, the future of the Moderns and how to encourage more participation. Encouraging more of them to get back out on the racecourse for major championships may be as simple as promoting a new “race within a race”, like the Baum + Konig and the KSSS Trophy in the Classics. Perhaps North America should take the lead here and deed another trophy?
